Prayer Song
The album is dedicated to the memories of Grace Mirehouse and Flora Wallace.
I had the great honour of joining the Tiqilap singers for recording this inspirational cd. Prayer song is a song by Tiqilap (tee-ack-il-lap), a group of singers based in Vancouver who meet every week at the Native Education college (NEC) to rehearse as well as create new works. Under the direction of composer/producer Russell Wallace, the singers learn traditional songs from the Lil'wat Nation as a foundation. The group creates new compositions collectively based on the traditional forms of Salish music. Tiqilap utilizes Salish music because that is the cultural community who has traditionally occupied this territory now called Vancouver.
