    Sat. July 23, 12 – 10 p.m.

    Sun. July 24, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. (Norine and Alice play at 3:30pm Sunday)

Immerse yourself in the arts at Town Centre Park for a two-day music, storytelling and arts festival.

Unleash your inner artist with interactive visual and literary art activities. Listen to stories from local authors and community storytellers while sipping a glass of wine or a cup of dark roast coffee. Be inspired by spoken word, pop-up theatre and choral performances, and dance till you drop at one of two stages featuring fantastic musical and dance performances by local artists. There will be plenty of activities to keep your kids busy too—arts and crafts, story-telling, games and even a scavenger hunt!

If strolling around taking in the sights and sounds is more your speed, there will be plenty to see and do. Take part in a visual arts walk and check out the artisan market with locally made crafts and products. If you work up an appetite, savour the flavours of the local food truck scene and wash it down with a craft beer. While you wander, expect to find a surprise or two around the bend.

  • Music on the Wharf - Norine Braun Trio

Over-looking the beautiful Fraser River, the "Music on the Wharf" concert series has something for everyone in the family. It started with a local band offering to play a one-time concert and has become one of the Maple Ridge Historical Society's most popular annual events.

Since 1997, this free (by donation) concert series has taken place on the Port Haney Wharf [located on River Road, just east of the Port Haney West Coast Express station].

Twice in July, and twice in August on Monday nights at 7:30pm (except for the last Monday in August, which is at 7:00pm) the concert series features local and regional bands. The performers cover a variety of musical styles including Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, Brass Band, Rock and Western. This is a great way to get to know the rich music scene in Maple Ridge.

There is no seating provided at this event so bring a lawn chair. The best seating area fills up fast so it is best to be there early. Parking is limited so plan ahead and carpool if you can. There are refreshments available. We are grateful to our many sponsors who help make this a success every year. Come and join us for our summer music series to celebrate historic Port Haney.

In case of rain, the concert will be cancelled, this decision will be made by 4:30pm the day of the concert. Signs will be posted at the venue, and you can contact 604-463-5311 for more details.

  • Dudley Saunders  crosses the border and includes Vancouver as a stop on his tour of the Pacific NW.

Dudley was included on my first promo compilation The Independents I produced for Braun and Brains Music a few years ago. I am beyond thrilled to share the bill with Dudley for his Vancouver debut! Its gonna be a fantastic show hope you can make it out!

"Anti-folkie" Dudley Saunders explores a peculiar brand of American balladry that bounds from the starkness of Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen to acoustic-based R.E.M at their most gleeful and trancelike.

AMPLIFIER REVIEW "Before Dudley Saunders embarked on a career in art-washed Americana, he was a performance artist, which may go a long way toward explaining the dramatic and visually rich tone of his third album, THE EMERGENCY LANE. There is a natural tendency to draw parallels between Saunders and ‘Hissing of Summer Lawns'-era Joni Mitchell, as Saunders' wire walk between the simplicity of folk and the complexity of jazz, exhibited both musically and lyrically, mirrors Mitchell's own creative explorations..."Brian Baker

  • Folk Up and Funk Out February 8th Three acclaimed Vancouver singer-songwriters Norine Braun, Taylor Harp and Karen Larson folk up and funk out Sunday Night February 8, 8pm at the Backstage Lounge for an $8 cover promising to make it a night to remember. Braun’s impressive and prolific catalog of 7 albums recorded/released over the past few years according to Progressiveworld.net, is “all over the musical map, stretching...her vocals into pop, rock, hip-hop, jazz, spoken-word, blues...you name it, she's got it covered.” Braun’s musical bedrock is steeped in soul in a sound that Indie-Music.com has observed “has great depth, versatility, and provides a fresh alternative to pretty much anything . ” The recipient of awards including ‘Female Singer-Songwriter of the Year’ in the Jazz Category at the Independent L.A. Music Awards (2006) and Winner of Artists Inspired By Literature International Songwriting Competition, Braun, even as a newcomer, has dazzled her critics as “a rare find,” according to The Best Female Musicians Magazine. Ink19 Magazine, meanwhile, has observed that while “people throw the word eclectic around a lot these days...pop vocalist Norine Braun...earns that label.” www.norinebraun.com www.myspace.com/norinebraunmusic It is a rarity to find someone this adept at an instrument, and who also has such a strong and clear control of their voice, that both individually could move you. Taylor Harp, a singer-songwriter based in Vancouver BC, is one of these people. His voice has a gentle warmness that soothes your soul like the sun and effortlessly drifts over a blues and rock influenced acoustic guitar littered with subtle inflections that are both well-crafted and perfectly emphasize his soulful laid-back vocal approach. Ariana Rock - Exclaim! Magazine -Semi-Finalist - WestCoast Singer/SongWriter Contest '07 -EastVan AllStar 'o8 - www.myspace.com/taylorharpmusic Karen Larson’s debut album 'Fire and Ice', showcasing some of Vancouver's finest musicians showcases both her rich, soulful vocals and gift for moving seamlessly between rootsy country-tinged pop and smoldering jazzy blues. Karen Larson is a talented songwriter that digs deep for her lyrics and turns the personal into the universal, using firsthand incidents as launch pads to an emotional realm familiar to all. Larson’s honesty translates well. Her performances, whether solo with her guitar, duo with her husband/pianonist, Pat Covernton, or with a band, attest to her ability to reach audiences. Performing at events like: Grrrls with Guitars, Afternoon of Music Festivals, Songwriters in the Round,Vancouver Jazz Festival, the Manitoba Stampede and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. • Our Village is a non-profit organization committed to assuring that children have experiences that enrich their lives and inspire their future. Those experiences may include: tutoring, art classes, cultural outings, challenge courses, or leadership building. Alone these opportunities are out of reach for most families yet they become available when we work together. It takes a Village to raise a child and it takes individuals who care to form the Village. Our Village is partnering with several local organizations and businesses including Womens Radio who value families and children. We will host a family event, “A Walk in the Park”, on October 4, 2008 at the Mountlake Terrace, Terrace Creek Park. This Family Fest will present an incredible network of resources for families as one aspect of Village. We will have areas designated for parents, children and teens mixed with entertainment and food.

  • This festival kicks off the 2008 Pride season in a very family friendly way. Grass roots may be taken quite literally here as participants sit on the grass listening to an afternoon of live entertainment. Located within the heart of the funky Commercial Drive area, this draws not only the neighborhood but even convinces plenty of Westenders to make their yearly venture across a bridge. As well as a live stage, food vendors, local artisans, and community groups are there to provide information, products, and services for the GBLT community.
