Truth and Dares Words and Music by Norine Braun Recorded live at Rear Window Studios Engineer:Adam Popowitz Never needed anyone She always did it on her own Life seemed always black and white People get there on their own Willful youth she sacrificed Her glass filled half way In the night, in the night She plays truth and dares She wakes up living on the street She’s hungry can’t find enough to eat She’s lonely, drunks lie at her feet Downtown, she lives downtown She looks at me with vacant eyes I worry that she might recognize My interest or my empty lies Downtown, she lives downtown Garbage in her livingroom She threw her pearls to the swine World’s my oyster anyways You see I manifest divine Mystic visions watching me I get connected all the time In the night, in the night She knows truth and dares I walk past her most everyday She asks for change I give away I give my penance for the day Downtown she lives downtown I stand corrected in front of truth My mind unravels the naked ruse The spirit moves me into use Downtown she lives downtown Never needed anyone She always did it on her own Life seemed always black and white People get there on their own Willful youth she sacrificed Her glass filled half way In the night, in the night She knows truth and dares

Ballad of Magic Man

(Norine Braun)
Ballad Of Magic Man
Words and Music by Norine Braun
A James Bowers Production

He’ll visit you one night
Sprinkle stardust
In your sleepy eyes
Show you the heavens
Sing you lullabies
The ballad of magic man

He’ll take you by the hand
Open your heart up
Help you understand
Dance you in twilight
Whisper secrets and
Why he's the magic man

He’ll never let you fall
If racing skyward give the call
He’s there to guide you when you feel small
SIng the ballad of magic man

As you go onward in years
You'll find magic man disappears
But the clever who dare look inside
Magic man will always reside

Magic man magic man

He’ll visit you one night

Take Back The Power

(Norine Braun)
Take Back The Power
Words and Music by © Norine Braun
Recorded live at Rear Window Studios
Engineer: Adam Popowitz

We got to take back the power
Take back the power
Be seen
We got to take back the power
Take back the power
Be Seen
We got to take back the power
’’Cause the power takes care of we

Before the rivers run dry
All the fish are dead
Before they take our future
Well we’ll shock them all instead

Chorus

Sneak into the back rooms
Where the deals are made
Between government officials and big business brigades
They got strange relations
Gonna give it all away
To a private sector
Where you won’t have a say

Chorus

We want energy forever
We want energy forever
We want energy forever for both you and me
Something we can pay for
Leaves environment green
Always there for when we need it
And the generations to come
We want pride when the children ask
What have you done?

Chorus

We want to take back the power...

Christmas Bells

Christmas Bells Words and Music by © Norine Braun Recorded live at Rear Window Studios Engineer: Adam Popowitz Christmas Bells Christmas Bells Long may they ring Happiness bring Love traveled far Stay who you are In the night We’ll be all right Just you and me Snuggle up close for some reverie Watching how we cozy In the tempest tea I will light the fire with glee When we hear Christmas Bells... Long may they ring Happiness bring Love traveled far Stay who you are In the snow we’ll have to go Hitch on the sleigh Saddle up the pony give him lots hay Wander in the wonder of the white delight Relish in the pale moonlight As we hear Christmas Bells... In the night We’ll be all right Just you and me Snuggle up close for some reverie Watching how we cozy In the tempest tea I will light the fire with glee When we hear Christmas Bells....

Love and Not Fear

(Norine Braun)
Love & Not Fear
Words and Music by © Norine Braun
Recorded live at James Bowers Studios

I look at everything in life
That brings me here
And I wonder what I'll become
I walk the streets at night
Come home to an empty place
My little space
I watch the news
And all the ugly things
I cry out and I beg
For something to find me here
Something to erase my fear

I need something
Something to find me here
I need love and not fear
I need something
Something to find me here
I need love and not fear

Desensitized
I realized
I could not feel
What was real
What was wrong
A voyeur in someone's pain and to remain
Unchanged
Seems so unreal

Chorus

Round round I go
Where I stop
I don't know

All the horrors
All the injustice
I can't breathe
Between the lines
Of power, greed, hateful men
I want something more than me
More than this tragic history
To be forgotten and gone

Chorus

Miles To Go

(Norine Braun)
MILES TO GO
Words and Music by © Norine Braun
A James Bowers Production

In the night I call your name
The fears I fight are still the same
But I will toil until there's no pain
I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep

Felt forsaken, all alone
No map, no guide, no going home
But I will wait when daylight breaks
And I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep

If I wander in too deep
I pray that love my soul will keep
If I find a solitary grind
If trials last, I know they too will pass
Miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep

In the night I call your name
The fears I fight are still the same
But I will toil 'til there's no pain
And I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep
I've miles to go before I sleep

Dreams Words and Music by © Norine Braun A James Bowers Production Last winter came a snow I had to let you go A whiteout that blinded Tears stream But I will always have you in dreams We find our way home back in dreams You’re warm here beside me My dreams Have told you how frozen The north wind is blowing Past dreams, past dreams Your ice storm broke the flow Crystals around you glowed As you said goodbye to the rain And I will always have you in dreams We find our way home back in dreams You’re warm here beside me My dreams Have told you how frozen The north wind is blowing Past dreams, past dreams I promised we’d rest Just a little ways left But I could fell your last breath And a furious chill Swelled up inside me Spilled over and still I begged you don’t leave me You said that you will Love me forever Wait at the nether Of dreams In dreams My dreams Dreams Last winter came a snow I had to let you go A whiteout that blinded In dreams

There's A Long, Long Trail A Winding (The prominent harmonica of the song make it easy to imagine Bob Dylan himself singing it.)

(Norine Braun)

"The prominent harmonica of the song make it easy to imagine Bob Dylan himself singing it." T.O. Snobs Music

There’s A Long, Long Trail A Winding Written in 1915, words by Stoddard King and music by Alonzo "Zo" Elliott Recorded live at Crosstown Studios Engineer: Allan Rodger   Norine Braun: Vocals, guitar and harmonica

Being a songwriter it is rare I ever do covers but on this album I do 2. I have long loved this tune and first heard this in my youth at a nursing home when I was a candy striper believe it or not :)  I always felt it had this haunting, yearning quality. Years later when I met my partner this was one of the first songs she ever played for me on piano. When I researched the song the soldiers from the First World War would sing this song in very raucous and boisterous manner which made me laugh,  to me it seems more lonely and pining.

Little Girl With Golden Hair

(Norine Braun)
Little Girl With Golden Hair
Words and Music by © Norine Braun
Recorded live at Wohl of Sound
Engineer: Paul Wohlstetter

Little girl with golden hair
They say you’ll take a chance
You’ll go anywhere
You’ll live your life
The way you chose
Little girl with golden hair

You just don’t care what people say
You do your thing in your own way
But the road you travel
Will always be
The one that’s hidden
No one can see

In the night
When you write down your thoughts
Do you wonder
Just what are the costs
Of the changing ways
In which you live your life

Little girl with golden hair
they tell me of the lessons in your heart
How it used to feel
How you played your part
Little girl with golden hair

The forces that will always decide
Where and when you find the next ride
On your travels
Or all through the night
Will help you see
The shadows and the light

Little girl with golden hair
They say you’ll take a chance
You’ll go anywhere
You’ll live your life
The way you chose
Little girl with golden hair

She’ll go anywhere
That s her way
She’ll hide everywhere
That’s ok
She’ll go anywhere
That s her way
She’ll hide everywhere
That’s ok

Junkie

(Norine Braun)
Junkie
Words and Music by © Norine Braun
Recorded live at James Bowers Studios

I used to be a junkie
Stick a needle in my arm
All my buddies tell me
Man there isn't any harm
Just put your money where your mouth is
And we’ll take you on the street
We’re gonna be the best friends
That you ever want to meet
Take all my money give me an uptown ride
In a shooting gallery you can see the other side

I cant for a moment even try to escape
everybody seems to find me
Can you promise all my secrets you will keep
Can you tell me when it starts to get too deep

Chorus

My old friends told me that they could see a change
They say I ain’t usual and I sure bee acting strange
I said mind your business take your nose out of mine
You're putting our friendship right on the line

Take all my money give me an uptown ride
In a shooting gallery you can see the other side

Chorus

Be Brave

(Norine Braun)
Be Brave
Words and Music by ©Norine Braun
A James Bowers Production

In the name of love
We must face this night
We will build the fires
Of eternal light

For the day will come
When survivors none
We will walk alone
In the setting sun

When we take that step
We can still be brave
For the love we take
Is the love we gave

Yes, When we take that step
We can still be brave
For the love we take
Is the love we gave

And if we live our lives
With this thought in mind
We will not be lost
We will just be kind

Persephone

(Norine Braun)
Persephone
Words and Music by ©Norine Braun
Recorded live at Crosstown Studios
Engineer: Allan Rodger

The river flows underground
Crone stand and wipes her brow
She is wiser than the world would know

She sees thought Hades eyes
And hears to her surprise
Demeter crying for her daughter dear

Persephone picked the flower bright
Dark Earth swallowed her out of sight
Persephone picked the flower bright

The river flows underground
Crone hears the hidden sound
She is singing the maiden’s song.
Chorus

She knows both the living and the dead
Rules where others fear to tread
Accepted the fruit and then she returned to sky

Welcomed by daylight in Earth mother’s arms
Spring returned, forever youthful her charms
Still no one would risk to speak her name

chorus

Human Kindness

Human Kindness
Words and Music by ©Norine Braun
Recorded live at Crosstown Studios
Engineer: Allan Rodger

Magician, poet hand in hand
With ridicule can break the man
With praise can raise the man
Magician, poet hand in hand

Well I look to human kind
Could you show me a little kindness
Right now you can’t see
But don’t be fooled by your blindness
For this surface is not all of me
Free your vision from within

i’ll work for human kindness
I’ll be your highest priestess
I can endure the most you’ll see
I would never leave you
I would give my life for you
If you could make me whole again

Chorus

I look at human kind
Are we what we’re believing
Right now we’re asleep an in our slumber
Dreaming, of a world beyond all reverie
Free your vision from within
I wont be afraid
When i know hope must stay
Fear is ever the killer divine
There but by love’s grace
Another one anyone else’s place
Could have been yours, could have been mine

Chorus
